Phobias are a learnt behaviour and can be specific (spiders, flying, etc.) or non-specific (panic attacks, agoraphobia, and social phobia). A phobia can profoundly affect your life and stop you doing the things you want to do. They can be triggered by actual events or they can be imagined events.
When we have a phobic response, we strengthen the neural pathways in the brain, meaning each time we have a response we further strengthen and re-inforce this neural pathway and behaviour. During Hypnotherapy we aim to disrupt these entrenched pathways and relearn new ones using a variety of techniques.
