Anxiety

Feelings of stress or anxiety will affect most of us at some time in our lives.

Stress can feel like a build-up of pressure that eventually results in a feeling of being too much to deal with. This can be triggered by an event that makes you feel frustrated and nervous or can slowly build up over time.

Anxiety is the feeling of fear, worry or unease. Short-term anxiety is a natural body response and often helps us to deal with unexpected or difficult situations.

However when it is more intensive, lasts longer or makes us worry about something irrational then it can fall under the umbrella of anxiety disorders, such as:

  • Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
  • Performance anxiety (e.g. public speak, sport performance, music performance)
  • Panic disorder
  • Phobias
  • Social anxiety disorder

The symptoms of anxiety or stress are driven by the same chemical reaction in the brain, our primitive brain does not understand the difference between an imagined threat and a real threat. So when you negatively forecast the future and worry about things,  your body will react with symptoms of anxiety and stress.

Hypnotherapy can help you to relax and focus on the positive aspects of your life instead of the negative. It can also help you to change your unwanted behaviour patterns, helping you to feel healthy, calm and in control of your life.

This, coupled with practical coping strategies and an understanding of the psychology of our body’s stress response can help you learn how to cope with feelings of stress and help you live your life more freely.
